4 Ways To Prepare Your RV Transportation

Daniela Munguia • October 11, 2023

You should know a few important things to protect your investment when it’s time to hit the road with your RV. Preparing your RV for transportation is crucial, as it will keep you safe while driving on the road and prevent any damage. Here are four ways to prepare your RV for transportation, ensuring your road trip is smooth sailing from start to finish!

Inspect Your RV

Before you hit the road, it’s essential to give your RV a thorough inspection. Check all the tires for any cracks or signs of wear. Make sure that all the lights and brakes are functioning correctly.

Check the roof for leaks or damage, and ensure all windows and doors stay locked and secured. Don’t forget to check the weight distribution of your RV, as you want to ensure that it’s within the weight limit for your vehicle before you hit the road.

Secure All Loose Items

Keeping everything secure is one of the most significant challenges you’ll face while transporting your RV. You don’t want anything shifting or banging around while you’re on the road, causing damage inside or outside of your RV.

Ensure all loose items, such as chairs, tables, and kitchen appliances, stay secure. Check your cabinets, fridge, and drawers, and secure any items that could move around while you’re in transit.

Protect the Outside of Your RV

Your RV will contact various natural elements, such as wind, rain, and sun, while on the road. So, take steps to protect your RV to keep it in top condition. Start by washing and waxing your RV, ensuring it’s clean and well-protected.

Cover any exposed areas, such as the wheels and steps, with plastic or metal brackets to protect them from debris and dirt on the road. Finally, put a cover over any protruding mirrors or antennas.

Check the Fluids and Fuel

You must also check the fluids, such as the oil, coolant, brake fluid, and transmission fluid, to name a few, to get your RV ready for transportation. Be sure to fill them up if necessary and inspect any filters for damage.

Moreover, you should always ensure you have enough fuel to reach your destination without running out. Top up the propane in your RV, check the battery levels, and bring extra fuel if you’re planning a long journey.
